Session # 1: The Life of  Christ: A Life Worth Loving

"Lovest Thou Me?" - John 21:15-17

• Why is love for Him so vital? 
  • He commands it (Mat. 22:37)
  • He rewards it (Jas. 1:12)
  • He deserves it (1 John 4:19)
• Love identifies God's children (John 8:32)
• Love invites God's company (John 14:23)
• Without love for Jesus - 
  • We're just "going to church"
  • We're just serving out of obligation
  • We're just dodging hell (Mat. 7:13-14)
• Why is Jesus worth loving? (John 3:16; Rom. 5:8; Gal. 2:20)
• Love Him because:
  • He left heavenly glory for you (John 1:1-3, 14; Heb. 1:1-3; 2 Cor. 8:9; Phil. 2:5-8)
  • He lived earthly life for you (John 1:14-18; 10:10; Heb. 4:15; 2:18)
    • He faced man's desires (1 John 2:16; Mat. 4:1-11)
    • He faced man's distress (Heb. 4:15; Poverty -Luke 2:24; Lev. 12:8; John 19:27; 2 Cor. 8:9; Persecution - Luke 4:16-30; Pain - Heb. 5:7; Luke 22; Mat. 27:46; Psa. 22:1, 24; Heb. 13; Job 10:2-6)
  • He died earthly death for you (John 10:11-15; 15:13; Heb. 2:9; Rom. 5:8)
    • He had to die because sin really is that bad.
    • God really is that good.
    • We really are that loved.
  • He defeated earthly death for you (John 10:17-18; Luke 24:46-48; 1 Cor. 15:55-57; 15:3-8; Acts 2:22; 3: 15; John 20:29)

• Can souls live like Christ?

• Because Jesus lived a servant's life, have a mentality of humility (Phil. 2:5-8;Mat. 16:21; 17:1-2; Luke 9:30-31; Mat. 17:9; Mark 9:31; Luke 9:44; Mark 9:33-35; Mat. 19:27, 30; 20:17-28; Luke 22:24, 27; John 13:1-5, 12-15)
• Because Jesus lived a sinless life, have a mentality of morality (Heb. 4:15; 5:12-14; Isa. 55:6-8; Rom. 6:1-2; 1 John 1:6-2:2)
• Because Jesus lived a suffering life, have a mentality of tenacity (Heb. 12:1-2; Job; 1 Pet. 4:1)
• Because Jesus lived a sacrificial life, have a mentality of mortality (Rom. 12:1; 1 Cor. 15:3)
  • Die to self (Luke 9:23-24)
  • Die to security (Luke 9:24-25)
  • Die to shame (Luke 9:26)

• Because Jesus lived a spiritual life, have a mentality of eternity (Col. 3:1-2; Gal. 5:22-23)
